In general, federal law mandates that employees be paid a minimum wage of at least $7.25 per hour and receive overtime pay for hours worked over 40 in a work week at a rate not less than time and on-half their regular rate of pay. However, under certain conditions, the federal Fair Labor Standards Act exempts certain employees from these requirements.
