As a reminder, the Mental Health Parity and Addiction Equity Act
(MHPAEA) of 2008 prohibit plans and issuers from setting coverage limitations
that apply more restrictively to mental health/substance use disorder (MH/SUD)
benefits than to medical/surgical benefits. While some coverage limitations
such as copayments and deductibles are easily evaluated for parity, nonquantitative treatment limitations (NQTLs) are not so simple.
